Kremlin comments on Poland blaming Russia for railway sabotage

(MENAFN) Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday commented on recent railway sabotage in Poland, saying it “would have been really strange if Russia wasn’t the first one to be blamed,” during an interview.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk earlier claimed that the blasts were carried out by two Ukrainians who allegedly worked “with the Russian intelligence” and fled to Belarus. Peskov noted that Poland, where “Russophobia is thriving,” appears eager to accuse Russia first.

He also highlighted that “the very fact that Ukrainian citizens are once again implicated in acts of sabotage and terrorism against critical infrastructure is noteworthy.” Peskov criticized Warsaw for becoming “tangled up” in its narratives, citing Poland’s refusal to extradite a Ukrainian national allegedly linked to the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions.

While Moscow rejects the Ukrainian sabotage narrative of Nord Stream, Peskov recalled that a Warsaw court blocked a German extradition request, labeling it “unfounded.” Berlin claims a small group of Ukrainian divers carried out the attack, severing three of four pipelines that supplied Russian gas to Germany—an account Moscow calls “ridiculous.”

When asked about Tusk’s comment that “the problem with North Stream 2 is not that it was blown up. The problem is that it was built,” Peskov argued it shows Poland’s willingness to condone terrorism if it harms Russia.
